Steepness does not translate well to pictures. The steepest street in San Francisco is Filbert Street between Hyde and Leavenworth and is 31.5 degrees. The street you see in the picture has a steepness degree of about 25 percent, but in the picture it looks like 5 percent tops. The only way you can see the street is really steep, is by looking at the cars. All of the cars have their front wheels turned, which would cause them to rotate instead of heading straight towards Alcatraz in case of their hand brakes failing or such…
