Sunday morning at 4.30 am our alarm clock when off. A little bit too early on a Sunday morning, but all worth it.

We took the ferry around 7am and arrived on Vancouver Island at 8.30am. On the ferry we saw some seals, and I was secretly hoping to see some whales. But we weren’t lucky:)

We drove to Goldstream Provincial Park to watch the salmon run. Every autumn millions of Pacific salmon forge their way up the myriad streams of the Northwest to spawn and die.

In Goldstream, salmon appear from mid October for about 9 weeks. You can see them working their way upstream. More or less a week after they entered the stream, they die of exhaustion.

I made a small movie of the salmon swimming upstream. If you watch closely you can see a salmon jumping on the left site of the movie.

After the Salmon watching we went to Sooke. A small town not far from Victoria. We’ve visited Renaat and Krista. A couple who moved to Canada a few years ago. We’ve spend the afternoon at their place and we shared stories. We had a wonderful day with these really amazing people.

When we got back in our street (after a long day) we saw a coyote cross the street. He was pretty close to us, but I was too late to take a picture. A nice ending of a lovely day.

Tomorrow were going out for dinner for Kris his birthday and for now I’m going to search for a bike, so I can drive around the city:).
